Norfolk & Norwich Spastics Association formed by group of parents – affiliated to national Spastics Society

NANSA ran a children’s treatment centre, held fundraising events and made welfare grants
|
|
1965
|
NANSA Adult Work Centre opened at 200 Bowthorpe Road, Norwich –sub-contract work undertaken by adults with physical and learning disabilities

1965-89
|
Adult Centre developed to include basic literacy/numeracy courses and vocational training in textiles and woodwork
|
|
1990
|
- 1990 Business Starter Units opened at the Adult Centre
- “FIND”, a parent support group, was established
- FIND Newsletter first published/circulated

1991

- 1990 Holiday chalet at Stalham purchased for NANSA by BBC Radio Norfolk Helpline
- Find-a-Link – a one-to-one support service for the parents – was established
- Cerebral Palsy enquiry line introduced

Adult Centre continued to develop into a resource centre, with additional educational and vocational courses

1994
|
- 1994 School for Parents established at Clare School in Norwich offering pre-school skills development sessions for children with cerebral palsy and their parents
- Thetford Gateopener project (which ran for 3 years) offered welfare and benefits information and advice

1995
|
1994 Norfolk & Norwich Spastics Association changed its name to Norfolk & Norwich Scope Association and incorporated to become a Company Limited by Guarantee

|
Adult Centre and School for Parents continued to develop and family services grew as links with other voluntary and statutory organisations strengthened

1998
|
1998 The Rising to New Heights Appeal was launched, to establish a family resource centre for children with disabilities and their families
|

2001
|
2001 The NANSA Family Centre was opened at 33 Woodcock Road, Norwich – School for Parents and all family services moved to the new centre

2002
|
2001 Holiday chalet sold – Radio Norfolk Helpline allowed NANSA to use proceeds for family services
|

2003
|
- 2001 “Stressbusters” – information and therapy “taster” sessions for parents – introduced
- Early Years Big Ideas Activity Sessions for children with physical/learning disabilities introduced

2004
|
Early Years Big Ideas Outreach Sessions for children with physical/learning disabilities opened in Long Stratton - (completed 2007)

2007

“Touch Therapy” (basic massage techniques) training introduced for parents of children attending pre-school sessions. Funded by The GEM Foundation. Management of “Right from the Start” initiative taken over from Scope

- Establishment of new families’ room at NANSA Family Centre.

- Introduction of “Sleep Counselling” pilot project (funded by Norfolk County Council Children’s Services)
